Potash fertilizers: what is it

Potash fertilizers: what it is, types and their names, application

Potash fertilizers are one of the basic elements that plants need for proper development and fruiting. Potassium for soil fertilization is used to normalize water balance, stabilize cell metabolism in plants.

For the most part, Russian potash fertilizer are potassium chloride (98%). The rest is potassium sulfate. The largest potash deposit in Russia is Verkhnekamskoye (30% of the global volume). Potash fertilizers are produced by Uralkali and EuroChem.

Potassium properties

Potash fertilizer are made from natural potassium salts: kainite, alunite, sylvinite, carnallite, etc. These salts increase the immunity of plants against drought and aggressive environmental influences. Other examples of positive influences on cultures:

increasing frost resistance;
improvement of sugar content and starch content of fruits;
activation of photosynthesis and the formation of enzymes;
improving the commercial characteristics and taste of agricultural products.

The main advantage of potash fertilizers is easy digestibility. The disadvantages are the short shelf life and the tendency to harden in high humidity conditions. When using mineral dressings, it is important to follow the recommended rates. An excess of potassium harms not only plants, but also humans (nitrates accumulate in fruits).
